Job Description
The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next easier and more enjoyable for every listener. From Blend to Discover Weekly, we’re behind some of Spotify’s most-loved features. We built them by understanding the world of music and podcasts better than anyone else. Join us and you’ll keep millions of users listening by making great recommendations to each and every one of them. We ask… that our team members be physically located in Central European time or Eastern Standard/Daylight time zones for the purposes of our collaboration hours.
We are looking for a Product Design Manager who is fluent in Spanish to join Spotify’s Personalization team. You will both manage and contribute to a small team of designers focused on creating and scaling some of Spotify’s most beloved personalized listening experiences. You’ll help find innovative ways to combine our understanding of the world of music and podcasts with our ~500M users’ unique tastes, bringing fans an experience tailored uniquely to them, and help them find new artists they love.
What you’ll do
? Manage a small group of product and content designers, and be accountable for their overall career development and work output.
? Lead design across a variety of listening experiences, (both in English and Spanish speaking markets.)
? Work closely with product, engineering and content design to scale our personalized listening experiences to Spanish-speaking listeners around the world.
? Responsible for creative decisions regarding the Latin American market.
? Leverage complex recommendation technologies powered by Machine Learning to build delightful listening experiences.
? Work closely with senior leadership to influence and create strategic visions for the product and then deliver on those visions.
? Work with product, design and Insights to ensure there is a deep understanding of user needs and that design solutions deliver meaningful impact.
? Challenge the status quo on innovation and quality of design work across our team.
? Take into account existing insights, technical constraints, business needs, and specific platform demands to produce data-informed solutions.
? Rapidly produce multiple concepts and prototypes, understanding when deeper exploration is warranted and when it is best to change paths and try another approach.
? Take full ownership of your work and total responsibility for every last detail, every step of the way, from whiteboard sketching to high-fidelity final treatments.
Who you are
? You have 2-3 years of experience managing designers, and have a passion for coaching and supporting people in their career journeys.
? You are looking for a manager/doer role and are excited by the opportunity to balance people management with individual contributor design work.
? You are a seasoned product designer (7-10 years of experience) with a background related to recommendations and personalization, and are proficient in data-informed product design and development.
? You have a people-focused design mentality and want to design and build products/features that truly have a significant impact.
? You are comfortable working in ambiguous spaces that are technically complex. The thought of applying design thinking to metadata, algorithms, and machine learning genuinely excites you.
? You’re a phenomenal communicator and compelling storyteller. Your written and verbal communication skills help you work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders.
? You have a proven track record to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization, and in a variety of contexts.
? You are fluent in Spanish (Mexico) and English – spoken and written (plus linguistic and cultural understanding of the differences between Mexican and other Spanish dialects)
? You have an online portfolio or PDF that you can share with us. Applications without a portfolio are unlikely to be considered.
Where you’ll be
? This role requires someone in a location that is within a reasonable commuting distance to our New York or Boston offices.
? For this role there will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home. We ask that you come into the office at least 1 day per week.
