Join Our Team: Become a Housing Standards Officer

Role Overview:
To promote independence within the homes of disabled and vulnerable residents by administering the Disabled Facility Grant and Discretionary Assistance process. You will form relationships with customers, contractors, landlords and other agencies to ensure customers? needs are understood and met in a way that ensures for a safe and dignified environment to remain independent. You will also undertake housing inspections associated with Houses in Multiple Occupation and complaints.
Key Responsibilities:
? Delivering… grant assistance including Disabled Facility Grants in a timely manner by supporting the customer through the application process and ensuring the customer at the end of the process has the much-needed adaptation along with receiving a high-quality experience.
? To assist, investigate and carry out inspections relating to housing standards especially those relating to the licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation, and responding to complaints about housing conditions in both the private rented and social housing sectors.
? Applying the appropriate enforcement legislation to ensure compliance is obtained in relation to housing standards.
? To work with other staff and management of the friendly and successful Housing Standards team, to ensure the team continuously delivers the highest quality environmental health services to our customers.
Qualifications and Skills:
? Qualification (e.g. BTEC, HND) in surveying, Environmental Health or another Housing related subject.
? Up to date expert technical knowledge of construction.
? Recent experience of carrying out inspections and applying current housing standards.
? Ability to interpret specialist information e.g. technical plans/drawings and specifications.
? Good organisational skills and able to manage workload in an efficient, effective manner.
? Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally to members, officers and the public.
